The philosophy of the organisation puts special emphasis on providing the best care for the residents and fulfilling the physical, social and spiritual needs of each individual resident.
Projekt počinje krajem kolovoza 2017. i traje 12 mjeseci.

Grund home for the elderly in Iceland
Grund is the oldest home for the elderly in Iceland and it is a private foundation. In October 2012 it was celebrating its ninetieth anniversary. It is a home for around 200 elderly people whose health and well-being is taken care of and more than 300 employees work there.Grund is divided into four parts: the main building overlooking the Hringbraut street, in the North there are Little Grund and Mini Grund, the last part are a couple of apartments on Brávallagötu street and folks who are staying there are in better shape, but still can enjoy the day watch services. Beside Grund there are two more nursing homes owned by the same founder. Mörk is located in Reykjavik and was opened in 2010. The second one is called Ás and is located in Hveragerði. There are five sections, two of which have staff working during 24 hours. The philosophy of the organisation puts special emphasis on providing the best care for the residents and fulfilling the physical, social and spiritual needs of each individual resident. There are diverse placements for people to entertain themselves as a swimming pool, a library, a hair dresser, religious and therapeutic services are offered, sports activities, medical support, and psychological supervision.Aims and regular activities at Grund: To maintain the pleasant and caring home that Grund has been from the start. To give the best care possible. To meet physical, spiritual and social needs of each resident. To provide good facilities and encourage respectful treatment of the home, as good environment produces well being amongst residents and staff. That everyone that so requests can live in a private accommodation.
The volunteer’s tasks consist of assisting the staff taking care of the elderly. The volunteer must be prepared to assist the staff with everything in the daily routine. The tasks include helping the elderly to get dressed, feeding the clients unable to do so themselves, taking the elderly people for walks around the neighbourhood, assisting them in their leisure work (knitting, needlework or other handicrafts) and helping them in their daily physical activities indoors or outdoors. The volunteer will also be asked to help in the kitchen. All ideas that might enrich the life of the elderly people are welcome. They can include entertainment activities such as music, theatre, reading, creative and artistic hand-work, preparing special meals from the volunteer’s home country, and, according to the volunteer’s progressive knowledge of the Icelandic language, sharing ideas and telling stories about his/her native country.
